Co2 Anyone? November Green Drinks 2009

During the evening of Saturday 7 November 2009 Green Drinks (Malta) organised a gathering titled Co2 Anyone? whereby the issues of Maltese transport sustainability and possible alternatives were debated. The event was held at the beautiful Razzett tal-Markiz Mallia Tabone in Mosta. The venue was made available by Mr. Joe Bartolo on behalf of Ghaqda Filantropika Talent Mosti. Big thanks!! Much appreciation also goes to Robert Cilia who came up with the idea, Dr Debono for sharing his work & experience with us, Ian Christie for the flyer, Joe Caruana for the photos and Aldo Calleja for the technical support.

By 7.30pm an impressive number of people had gathered (some core Green Drinkers and some new people) – evidence of the intense interest which this topic always generates. Dr. George Debono was the first guest speaker. He presented an extremely informative and scientific lecture on the impact of transport on the environment and health. Dr. Debono is an ardent believer and practitioner of alternative transport and uses his bicycle as his main means of private transport. If you want to read something on the topic click this. If you want to receive a copy of 'Towards a Low Carbon Society: The Nation’s Health, Energy Security and Fossil Fuels' whose lead author was Dr Debono, send us an email ( and we will send you the PDF.

The next guest speaker was Robert Cilia who made a presentation regarding the mentality of most adolescents who as soon as they turn 18 years of age purchase a car. Reasons as to why they feel this to be such a necessity were analysed.

Both presentations were followed by questions and/or comments by those present. The event closed off with drinks and nibbles provided by those present. A very enjoyable and informative evening indeed. More information about Green Drinks Malta can be found on and anyone wishing to join Green Drinks (Malta) can do so by sending an email to

You are invited to join us for an informative and interactive Green Drinks Gathering on Saturday the 7th November at 7.30pm until 10.30pm at Razzett tal-Markiz, Triq Wied il-Ghasel, Mosta.

We will be discussing alternative transport for half an hour with Robert Cilia and George Debono, then spend some time coming up with some creative solutions and then we will socialise Green Drinks style, wine included :)

We would like you to use a greener way of coming to the event - walk it, cycle it, car-share or anything else you come up with!.

Because of the venue size, we will only have a limited number of people, so if interested you are requested to send us an email on stating that you are interested in joining us for the event and also which kind of transport you will be using :).

This is a free event and on first come first served basis. The first booking deadline for the event is Sunday 1st November.

Looking forward to see you and spend an alternative Saturday evening at the beautiful Razzett tal-Markiz.

Green Drinks Malta would like to thank Robert Cilia for the great initiative.
